Nintendo Fire Emblem Replica Sword

Below is a quick pictorial of our work with Nintendo on a replica of the sword of from their hit game series called Fire Emblem. We were very fortunate to work with them on this project as Mark and I have been fans of their games for years. These pictures below with the blue wax should the carving of the pommel, handle, and guard out of a hard blue wax. Mark prefers to work with this wax as opposed to a softer wax as it is still wax, however it has more of a plastic quality to it. The picture of the tube is the rubber molded that was taken from the blue wax. We used a softer wax, which is red and as a lower melt temp, to create the waxes that were sent to the casters. You'll also note that the guard is hollow cast. This is due to the enormous size of the guard. We got one guard back from our caster that was solid. Needless to say it is really heavy and you fight to get the tip of the sword up. A lot! Below those pics you'll find some finished production shots.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind about this project. I think it is important to note that OlliN was contracted by Nintendo to make these replicas. This is not a random fan asking us to make this piece as we are not in the habit of remaking copyrighted material. I think something else worth noting is that these pieces were made non-functional by the request of the customer. Again, we will make what the customer is looking for and in this case live steel was something that they wanted, so stainless was a good choice for this project. And I think most important, OlliN does not have any of these swords in stock nor can we make or take custom orders on this piece.
