Production

Draco's Reaper was a nice change of pace in the shop. I had wanted to work on something like an ax for a while as it would give me a chance to approach its construction differently then swords. This project came along at just the right time. It also gave me a chance to work with a pervious customer again, Grant, which is always a pleasure. For the construction of this piece I cut out and prepped the blades out of our 1075 stock. We then sent them out to a machinist in IN, whom I've known for a number of years, to wield the collar for this piece. Once the head was back in the shop I was able to make quick ground on the construction of the handle and pommel. The production photos above show various stages of construction. Often times I've found it helpful to sample out the stain options before moving forward as red is not always the red that someone wants. This way the customer gets the color they are looking for the first time around. Once the color was approved I was able to assemble and prep it for shipping. Though there were some production delays as we where working out things with the machinist the overall production went as I was expecting. Draco's Reaper and Razor make an impressive set that I know Grant is excited to own. Mark Grzybowski |
